Building Business for Life with Regenerative Enterprise Design

Here’s a fresh approach to business, and it’s not about “business as usual.” At Make Honey Ventures, we’re building businesses with life at their core—literally. This means designing companies to work like living systems instead of old-school machines. We’re talking about finance, governance, ownership, networks, and purpose all built on principles that don’t just extract value but keep giving it back.

Inspired by Marjorie Kelly’s work with the Democracy Collaborative, our model digs deep into those five pillars:

  1. Finance – Money flows in ways that create long-term value, not just quick profits.

  2. Ownership – Who benefits and who has a say? Ownership is shared to keep power and resources balanced.

  3. Governance – Decision-making is designed to serve the whole system, with transparency and real accountability.

  4. Networks & Partnerships – We team up with others based on shared goals, not just transactions. Together, we’re stronger.

  5. Purpose – Profit’s not the only goal; we’re here to serve people, communities, and the planet.

Thanks to tools and training from The Doughnut Economics Action Lab and The Capital Institute, we’re grounding these principles into actionable methods, making it easier to launch new businesses that support regeneration from the start. It’s about creating companies that thrive by supporting others—nature, people, and future generations. This isn’t just about tweaking old models; it’s about building from the ground up to support life.
